Wedding Theme Ideas for your Dream Wedding

A theme for your wedding will make it easier to make decisions during the planning process. If your theme is "formal and elegant" you will not be tempted by those darling hand made country party favors you just saw on etsy. An outdoor "BBQ" reception rules out the high end crystal vases your mother in law to be, just LOVES. Here are a few ideas to get you started. I would like to thank our Brides who have contributed their ideas to this collection of theme weddings.

Fall/Autumn/Halloween Wedding

  • Candy corn or Halloween candy in bags with your personalized label as Party Favors. Cute miniature 4x6" and larger shopping bags come in organza or paper. Draw string bags now come in everything from muslin to silk.
  • Pumpkins as the base for your centerpieces.
  • Get the kids attending your wedding fun Halloween bags filled with candy, masks to color and small boxes of crayons to keep them busy and having fun.
  • Have your guests wear costumes; much to your mother-in-law's and probably your mother's dismay.
  • Definitely take photos outside if you're getting married where the trees are changing colors...beautiful!
  • Use pumpkins to edge your aisle... and let the kids/guests take them home.
  • Use silk leaves in your centerpieces.
  • Do a dance to the Monster Mash.

Winter Wonderland Wedding.

  • Cool colors, acrylics or crystals.
  • Fur muffs with simple White Orchids instead of Bouquets.
  • White flowers can be frosted with iridescent glitter.
  • Your drink glasses could edged with salt or sugar... your featured drink could be a Snowman, a snowball with coconut on the rim of the glass or a virgin Lemon Ice.
  • If you can find one... rent a silver dance floor and edge it with artificial snow to look like an ice ring.
  • Have your decorator hang a sheer curtain behind the head table back lite with a pale blue light and snow flake hanging in front of the curtain on behind it to throw shadows on the drape.
  • Use white Roses and Casa Blanca Lilies in Glass Vases on all the tables. There are so many beautiful vases available now. We have several styles we rent or lend to our local brides.
  • Rent Silver Lame table toppers and chair ties.
  • Hire a professional lighting company to add great shimmer and shine to your venue.
  • Christmas Wedding

  • Use some of the ideas from the Winter Wonderland Wedding but add a few special touches.
  • Buy pretty ornaments as guest favors and double up as a place card by adding a gift tag with your guest's name and table number. Consider having the ornaments personalized.
  • Use Christmas Trees around the room. Check with your venue about Fire Codes.
  • Centerpieces can be as simple as wrapped boxes. If you are all thumbs and can't tie a bow, ask your favorite gift store to wrap empty boxes.
  • A door wreath laid on the table and filled with pillar candles will make a lovely centerpiece but again check with your venue about fire codes... you may have to use battery operated candles or some kind of glass cover like a hurricane.
  • Use holly and evergreens in your floral pieces for fragrance and look.

    Valentine's Day / Romance Theme

  • Hearts and Cupids come to mind when I think of V-Day
  • Red & white or pink & white colors.
  • I have seen the wedding party dressed like famous lovers down thru the ages. Though Romeo and Juliet didn't end well, nor did Cleopatra and her lovers. I guess happy endings are only interesting in fairy tales and Romance Novels. Now there is an idea... tables named for Romance Novel writers... instead of numbers.
  • Instead of confetti sprinkle Conversation heart candy on the tables.
  • Heart shaped cake or pretty cupcakes with chocolate candy hearts on top.
  • Your aisle could have rose petals either edging it or covered in them.
  • Bling Wedding

    • This will never be a great Budget Theme but with careful selections and strategic use of bling most brides can have a Bling Wedding.
    • The DRESS... you have found the perfect dress for your special day and it is covered in sparkle. Well keep going with a Rhinestone Crown or Tiara. Add rhinestones to your bouquet and your Groom's Boutonniere.

  • The most important thing I tell my brides is to calm and relaxed. Things will not always go the way you want them to but if you are calm and flexible you can enjoy the process of planning your wedding.
